You’ve been feeling bored and frustrated with your life for some time.
Yes, you have much to be thankful for: it’s safe, comfortable but it all seems so empty, meaningless and unfulfilling. It just feels like there’s got to be more to life.
After much debating, you’ve made up your mind: it’s time to make changes in your life!
This is where things often go wrong…
1| The big reinvention mistake!
At this point it’s very tempting to pull out the old tricks, trust common wisdom and jump into action mode to make something happen right away.
So, you polish your resume, re-activate your network, consider getting new certifications, work towards a promotion, find a new job or make a career pivot.
Or, you start making plans to travel the world, move to a new country, ditch your relationship or try to get into a new one…
Basically, you reach for the most obvious way to shake things up and reinvent yourself.
Well, please do yourself a favor and don’t!
This approach is likely what got you where you are. Doing more of the same will only produce the same results and as you know: they haven’t been very satisfactory.
2| The way out
If you want drastic changes, you need a drastically different approach: an approach that will most likely feel unnatural and uncomfortable.
After all, it’s the natural and the comfortable that brought you were you are, so the only way to get unstuck and move forward is to embrace the awkward and uncomfortable.
Do you want a life of comfortable misery where you dread waking up every morning, pretend to be happy although you’re miserable, drag yourself through life politely saying ‘yes’ although you really want to say ‘hell no’ or or do you want to thrive, live fully, blissfully and authentically the way you know deep down that you were supposed to live?
Well, the price of a life of passion and excitement that you’re eager to wake up to every day is change.
And, a drastic change I may add!
3| The next steps
So, what do think?
Are you ready to leave your comfort zone and try a new approach?
If your answer is ‘yes’, then here are a few suggestions to avoid this renvention mistake.
The new approach I would recommend is based on less action and more alignment.
When you feel bored and stuck, and you want changes, it’s natural to reach toward the most accessible solutions that you can imagine. It’s an obvious way to get quick relief.
The problem with this is that the goal shouldn’t be quick relief but rather lasting changes. And for that you need to get to the root cause of the issue!
A quick relief, bandage solution will never achieve that.
Here’s what I would suggest you do instead before taking any action.
- Reconnecting with yourself.
It will help find clarity and direction. You probably got where you are in life by losing sight of yourself or by making too many compromises, therefore this step should not be neglected. - Levelling up your mindset.
It will help you make what now feels uncomfortable your new comfort zone so that you naturally operate in ways that help you thrive and it will make your transition much easier. - Updating your knowledge base, your toolbox and your skillset.
It will empower you new approaches that deliver incredible results with a fraction of the effort you would normally have had to exert and make up for the time you’ve lost on the wrong tracks and for the time invested in getting to the root cause of your situation.
